BENEATH A PAPER MOON

Beneath a Paper Moon is a series of photographs and writing that examines unresolved tensions within America’s storytelling traditions. Centered on regional myths, tall tales, and vernacular legends, the project considers how these narratives shift across generations and how past, present, and future coexist within them.

Rather than treating folklore as static or nostalgic, the work approaches myth as a living system—one that absorbs historical trauma, social change, and collective desire. Through image and text, Beneath a Paper Moon traces how stories migrate between fact and fiction over time, revealing the ways national identity is continually rewritten through the narratives a culture chooses to preserve, embellish, or forget.
