Miguel — Worn Stories (1 of 3 in triptych) 2018
45” x 36”
Original collage artwork (no editions)
Analog collage on photograph. Deported from the USA, Miguel Ruiz was photographed with his American-born son in Tijuana, Mexico. Media includes: reproductions of a single photograph the subject shared and an image of the border fence I made on Hahnemühle Rice Paper, archival glue, acrylic paint on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308 paper. American Portraits (working title) is an in-progress photo-
collage series that considers the vast range of individual stories held within the American people. Each portrait set is a triptych depicting the subject’s familial story across time: the first is a portrait of the subject wearing family photographs; the second is an imagined site-specific monument to stories the subject shared with me; and the third, still in development, will be photo-collage sculpture depicting the stories/photographs abstracted across deep time.
